I can’t even hear you

Agenzia04 is proud to announce the opening of I can´t even hear you, a solo show featuring the work of the Spanish artist Itziar Barrio. Based in Bilbao, her work includes performance, dance, painting, video and digital animation. Her recent solo exhibitions have been held in Bilbao, Barcelona and New York.
This project will be an evolution of her research recently started in the occasion of the artist’s solo show at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, New York, during her Museum’s invitational residence (Summer 2006).
The show installation at Agenzia04 will give to the artist the chance to express all her versatility. The gallery space will be embraced by a range of works from her recent research which crosses several media. A large-scale adhesive tape installation will be installed together with drawings, videos and animations.
Barrio’s work tries to explore the irrational and the unusual side of things in daily life looking for new relationships between different media. The meaning of her research comes out by itself, through the form, being more important the sensation than the rational interpretation.
The interest she has in things that she does it’s necessary for her understanding of the reality, being in the most of the cases a re-action/creation to this. On the world portrayed in her animations she intends to consider more real the vision of the world than the relevant world.
The use and repetition of her abstract icons in murals, sculptures and paintings, is something considered the extension of images representing the reality as a physical thing. There is much to be seen and intuited through the rather ambiguous story lines of her animations.
Her ‘new’ point of view creates humorous characters and funny architectural constructions that seem to figure out new roads in an imaginary world cutting the line with the reality.

With this project Agenzia04 continues in its aim of staging exhibitions giving the chance to Italian public of knowing the work of emerging talents from over the world.
