June 3 - July 31, 2004
The new space for contemporary art Agenzia04
starts his activity in a re-styled warehouse located
in Bologna on June 3, 2004. It profiles itself as an
international exhibition space with the ambition to present
projects dedicated to young artists emerging on international
market but not yet known by Italian public and collectors.
The first project will be dedicated to North Europe and
other exhibitions on schedule will focus on young international
contemporary art from Europe, China, Japan, United States.
Agenzia04 is situated in the most significant contemporary
art area in Bologna near the new “Manifattura delle
Arti” where the art scene seems to be characterized
by a novel activity among Modern Art Gallery, DAMS Faculty,
Cinematheque, new private galleries.
Conceiving its role both as operational base for contemporary
art projects and exhibiting space, the aim of Agenzia04
is to function as a mediator between artists and collectors,
critics, institutions, other spaces, press, ... creating
some links and a network for communicating and distributing
art. Every project will be of long duration so as to
be communicated and maybe have a follow up on further
spaces.
The opening group exhibition Freeze will
present the work of four Scandinavian artists, three
from Denmark and one from Finland, for the first time
shown on an Italian space.
Lise Blomberg Andersen, Trine Boesen and Julie Nord work
on paintings and drawings; Tiina Ketara works with installation.
All these artists’ research is impressive both
for deepness and visual effects. They have gained international
recognition and have been shown in galleries, museums
and art biennials. They also are represented in important
private and public collections.
This exhibition investigates on the concept of nature
and a sense of a return to myths and child tales on young
contemporary research, often in connection with strong
psychological implications.
Beyond a sugary innocence surrounding the work of these
artists, a power not yet revealed is hidden. It seems
they would like to emerge from obsessive childhood phantoms,
images from the heart that emotionally involve us.
It is a chilling sensation, a frozen atmosphere which
the viewer is projected in. It refers to a northern perception
between pureness and ambiguity that fascinates and arouse
our curiosity at a time.
LISE BLOMBERG ANDERSEN
She was born on 1971 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she
lives and works. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy
of Fine Arts of Copenhagen and had personal and group
exhibitions in Denmark.
Between dream and reality, her work evokes an emblematic
nature where an apparent lightness hides painful psychological
situations. Emblematic romantic scenarios reveal, at
a deeper view, some strange elements exceeding from a
natural logic. Landscapes become somehow post apocalyptic
scenes or psychological projections that attract and
disturb the viewer.
TRINE BOESEN
She was born on 1972 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she
lives and works. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy
of Fine Arts of Copenhagen and at the Academy of Fine
Arts of Aarhus. She had personal and group exhibitions
in Denmark and Germany. Her work is represented in
public collections.
The work of T.B. is a personal elaboration on materials
from magazines, books, photos, films. The close-up main
characters and the non-figurative background are arranged
in relation to each other giving to the surface dynamism
and strength. The variety of signs create a fantasy side
world that opens to the spectator a confused sense of
anguish and abandon.
TIINA KETARA
She was born on 1965 in Ylivieska, Finland, she lives
and works between Helsinki and Paris. She studied at
the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Beaux-Arts
of Paris, at the Fine Arts Academy of Finland of Helsinki
and the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastiques
of Paris. She had personal and group exhibitions in
Finland, France, Denmark, Great Britain and Holland.
Her work is represented in public collections.
Her work consists of glass or plastic colored beads installations
hanged in the air tied to nylon lines. The beads assume
some different colors and reflect lights creating mental
and spiritual images towards a sense of infinity.
JULIE NORD
She was born on 1970 in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she
lives and works. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy
of Fine Arts of Copenhagen. She had personal and group
exhibitions in Denmark and Turkey. She have gained
international recognition and her work is represented
in public collections.
The remarkable and emblematic universe on J.N. drawings
is hard to forget. She invites us into a both delicate
and brutal world of fairy tails and northern myths, but
something unexpected is always coming out. The progression
of the narration is constantly interrupted because there
is no beginning and no end in the mental landscapes of
J.N.
The artists will be present at
