Agenzia04 is pleased to announce the opening of the
double solo show by Stefano Calligaro and Nicolas Touron.
This project has been conceived as a face to face presentation
of two of the most interesting emerging artists in the
international scene focusing on sculpture and drawing.
Sculpture and drawing are receiving more and more attention
by young artistic research. The show tries to build connections
between the two artists’ work and highlight a reciprocal
exchange among them.
Stefano Calligaro (born 1976, lives
and works in Padova) works on sculpture and drawing creating
a personal and unique artistic language. His abstract
structures take form on the total works installation
and settle down a reciprocal relationship.
Attracted by the young entertainment world such as skateboards,
magazines, t-shirts, beer labels, the artist uses an
arsenal of images and materials to explore the collision
between them and their effect on different territories.
Grip tape, wood and other materials alternate one another
in a colorful and unstable landscape.
Stefano Calligaro’s sculptures enter a space which
is not regulated by the laws of traditional perspectives,
but shapes are organised according to a logic of successive
levels and create unpredictable structures representing
a personal aesthetic idea.
Both on drawings and sculptures shapes take form between
a figurative and non figurative three-dimensional space
where the abstraction provides to the artist the way
of investigating on architecture.
Nicolas Touron (born 1970 in France,
lives and works in New York) uses drawings, paintings
and sculpture to transcribe small details from his memory
into a whimsical aesthetic.
His work mixes his absurd and sophisticated wit, but
it is executed with a touch of both the simplicity and
cruelty of a child’s eye.
On his drawings a large repertory of colored images from
various origins and referring to different worlds often
fills a small part of the sheet leaving the white to
balance the image and create a strange equilibrium and
unstable energy.
He assembles casts of strange animals or toys and train
tracks into sculptures that seem as though they are just
about to topple over. The rigid materiality of household
objects is transformed into illogical fantasies whose
architecture is supple enough to allow the most unfathomable
realities to seem at ease.
